WASHINGTON (AP) — Public at last, special counsel Robert Mueller’s report revealed to a waiting nation Thursday that President Donald Trump tried to seize control of the Russia probe and force Mueller’s removal to stop him from investigating potential obstruction of justice by the president.

Mueller laid out multiple episodes in which Trump directed people around him to try to influence or curtail the Russia investigation after the special counsel’s appointment in May 2017. Those efforts “were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests,” Mueller wrote.

After nearly two years, the two-volume, 448-page redacted report made for riveting reading.

In one particularly dramatic moment, Mueller reported that Trump was so agitated at the special counsel’s appointment on May 17, 2017, that he slumped back in his chair and declared: “Oh my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my presidency. I’m f---ed.”

In June of that year, Mueller wrote, Trump directed White House Counsel Don McGahn to call Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who oversaw the probe, and say that Mueller must be ousted because he had conflicts of interest. McGahn refused — deciding he would rather resign than trigger a potential crisis akin to the Saturday Night Massacre of Watergate firings fame.

Two days later, the president made another attempt to alter the course of the investigation, meeting with former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and dictating a message for him to relay to then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The message: Sessions would publicly call the investigation “very unfair” to the president and say that Mueller should limit his probe to “investigating election meddling for future elections.” Sessions didn’t do so.

Flash forward to Thursday, and Trump celebrated the report’s release, telling the audience at an unrelated White House event that he was having “a good day, too. It was called no collusion, no obstruction.” He also renewed his calls for an investigation into the origins of the inquiry, saying, “We do have to get to the bottom of these things, I will say.”

The Justice Department posted a redacted version of the report online, 90 minutes after Attorney General William Barr offered his own final assessment of the findings.

The release represented a moment of closure nearly two years in the making and at the same time the starting bell for a new round of partisan warfare.

Democrats cried foul as Barr held a press conference just before the release — “spinning the report” in the words of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. They sent up a chorus of calls for Mueller himself to testify before Congress, and Barr said he wouldn’t object.

Moments after Barr finished speaking, House Judiciary Chairman Nadler sent a letter requesting that Mueller himself testify before his panel “no later than May 23.”

Mueller evaluated 10 episodes for possible obstruction of justice, and said he could not conclusively determine that Trump had committed criminal obstruction. The episodes included Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey, the president’s directive to subordinates to have Mueller fired and efforts to encourage witnesses not to cooperate.

The president’s lawyers have said Trump’s conduct fell within his constitutional powers, but Mueller’s team deemed the episodes deserving of criminal scrutiny.

As for the question of whether the Trump campaign had colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign, Mueller wrote, “While the investigation identified numerous links between individuals with ties to the Russian government and individuals associated with the Trump Campaign, the evidence was not sufficient to support criminal charges.”

Mueller also said there wasn’t sufficient evidence to charge any campaign official with working as an unregistered foreign agent of Russia.

The report included an appendix that contained 12 pages of Trump’s written responses to the special counsel. They included no questions about obstruction of justice, as was part of an agreement with Trump’s legal team.

Trump told Mueller he had “no recollection” of learning in advance about the much-scrutinized Trump Tower meeting between campaign officials and a Russian lawyer. He also said he had no recollection of knowledge about emails setting up the meeting that promised dirt on Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

He broadly denied knowing of any foreign government trying to help his campaign, including the Russian government. He said he was aware of some reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin had made “complimentary statements” about him.

Trump said that his comment during a 2016 political rally asking Russian hackers to help find emails scrubbed from Clinton’s private server was made “in jest and sarcastically” and that he did not recall being told during the campaign of any Russian effort to infiltrate or hack computer systems.

Mueller’s team wrote that Trump’s answers were “inadequate.” They considered issuing a subpoena for Trump, but decided against it after weighing the likelihood of a long legal battle.

Harumpf...
How could they determine that Trump had committed criminal obstruction, when there is, or was no crime committed!
If there was No Crime, how could "Trump Obstruct"
The writer of this AP dirt bomb, was a confidant to the Clinton's for many years. In these times of "Fake News" it is very important to first read the By-Line. By the way, much of what gets to print in this rag (TN) is Fake News. It just so happens to be local, so I read it too.
Clinton was impeached for perjury and obstruction in a sexual harassment lawsuit.... that is a crime. It wasn't about oral sex. You bought the talking points.....
Hair sniffing Joe Biden wasn't either. We live within a two tier justice system Joe. The ruling elites on one tier, and you and I on another tier. Could we at least throw all else aside, and agree on that?
Trump had the discussion with Sessions, where he said, "I'm screwed...." I don't think that was actually said, but... If it was, perhaps it was merely an assessment to the services being performed by Jeff Sessions. This was part of Sessions performance evaluation, of which, he sucked.
Trump knew what he was up against. Mueller's team was comprised of a bunch of Obama lawyers, a bunch of Hillary lawyers who’ve also been fundraisers, bundlers, big time donors. Trump knew there were no parameters on Mueller's investigation. There were no limits put on where he could go, what he could do. He was gonna find a crime if it’s a process crime. He was looking into Trump’s business procedures and practices already in 2008. There’s no stopping the guy. It’s out of control and it needs to be brought under control big time, and Trump knew that. What did you expect him to say? But he survived, and now perhaps the truth will come out. Just sit back and watch.
Do you remember Mueller put four people in prison for years in the Whitey Bulger investigation — mob boss, crime boss in Boston — and the four turned out to be entirely innocent, and they were released. They were entirely innocent. Mueller put four people in jail. The four innocent men were in prison for more than 30 years. Trump knew the kind of man Mueller is, yet Trump survived.
Joe... get this...
Two of the men Mueller put in prison, died before they were freed and exonerated. But get this. It was discovered the FBI withheld evidence from the court of their innocence in order to protect their informant. The men would have been cleared but Mueller and the prosecutors withheld evidence from the court to protect their CI [confidential informant]. Thirty years in jail, four innocent people, from the man of impeccable integrity inside the establishment swamp.
You are on the wrong side of history on this one Joe.
Wake up... smell the coffee. It's over!
Joe, you need to be able to search out your own information. I am not going to hold the book and turn the pages for you. You seem to be “selective” with your sources. Stuff that I heard many months ago seems to have slipped by you. The Dossier is fake, which is, in my mind, a cornerstone of this, seems to be a surprise to you. You seem to cherrypick information. Your hatred of President Trump guides your thought process. You want to hear negative things about Trump. You are vulnerable to anything negative that you see. You are like a hungry wolf to devour any meat that you get. Your hatred of President Trump is a definite bias...whether you know it or not. That Trump is doing a great job in office probably escapes you. That Trump said “l love Wikileaks” should have him impeached. Is that your ridiculous position? I will now once again give you general references for your review. If you refuse to consider them you prove my observation that you are biased. You readily accept left sided sources, while you refuse other sources. Getting all information will make you a better person.

This is off the top of my head. There are more. The books are both well sourced with footnotes. The podcasts are titled by subject matters. Go to iHeartRadio for that. All this is available. The TV programs can be reviewed from YouTube (highlights). Don’t be a lock minded hater.
Now it is obvious, Joe you are a self-imposed ignorant Trump hater. If you refuse to review information that is pertinent you remain in the dark. I just gave you about 18+ sources that you shunned. You are ignoring important information. Chapter 6 in The Russian Hoax discusses the fake Dossier that you begged for sourcing. Now, when that parcel is put in your lap, and a lot more information, you refuse to look at it. You remind me of a child that refuses to eat their vegetables. You only want the cake. All indications are you are defrauding yourself.
Joe, you state you are informed but you aren’t even aware of primary facts in the case. You hate President Trump so much (who is doing great by all standards of measuring) you blissfully ignore pertinent facts that would change your opinion. How do you think the Christian Science Monitor ranks on the list of news sources? 400th maybe. Hey, if that is what you want ok. I am sure some guy uses Field & Stream for his primary information. You can tell him that FDR died...in 1945.
Rush Limbaugh is a radio commentator. The Mueller Report should be unbiased. The lawyers involved are all left wingers. Mueller is biased against Trump because he wanted the Director of the FBI position and was seemingly shunned. Also, Mueller and Trump had a failed business deal. The job of a jury or a report is to state either guilty or innocent. That is all. Bias was indicated by a two year investigation with a whole team that hated the subject of investigation. They railroaded Flynn, Manafort, and others by intimidation and threats. Should the SWAT team invade a house early in the morning to arrest for tax evasion? What if that was you? That is ok, right? Oh, you didn’t know about that...so, it is alright. Come on Joe. This investigation was a fraud. The people that wasted your money doing it were frauds. The Mueller Report is a fraud. It is all laid out there for anyone to see...if you care about truth and honor and justice. If you refuse the accurate and proven sources put into your lap then you make yourself into a fraud too. It is too bad for you. Half an education is as good as no education at all.
Oh for crying out loud... Do I have to do your homework?
I know most the team's credentials, if not, I wouldn't take the stand I do.
Big Dog Andrew Weissmann, was deputy and later director of the Enron Task Force. Weissmann destroyed an accounting firm (Arthur Andersen LLP). All 85,000 jobs worldwide were also destroyed— only to be reversed several years later by a unanimous Supreme Court.
I also learned that Weissmann was a Barack Obama and Democratic campaign donor.
CNN reported that “three members of the legal team known to have been hired so far by special counsel Robert Mueller to handle the Russia investigation have given political donations almost exclusively to Democrats,” naming Jeannie Rhee, James Quarles, and Andrew Weissmann. CNN of all people! They were gloating Ha Ha Ha Ha that's the way FAKE NEWS is.
Look my friend, I haven't the time or energy to get you up to speed. Wake up, do your own homework. Perhaps we can sit and discuss over a coffee.
I prefer discussing the events surrounding Jesus though.
Peace, and Happy Easter
He has risen!
Stop nit picking with me. It only shows you have a weak argument. The term I used was referring to their leanings. I meant, they were lawyers who lean left, bias left, and get pats on the back from the left.
A biased mob couldn't find anything that would stick. Ha Ha Ha
That grinds your gears more than Hillary loosing an election that was rigged in her favor.
Let's face it Joe, the Democrats are looking pretty slippery right about now.
Nit pick with someone else, you are like the grandkids. tiring!
You need not be insulting to Mr. Meyers. You lose credibility being like that. You don’t need to read anything slowly, you do need to expand your sourcing. I am not going to write you a term paper and school you on stuff to bring up your game. The stuff you ask about is out there. I listed the sources. Do you want a story hour? Do you want me to turn on your radio? Do you want me to turn the pages for you? Come on Joe!
Come on Joe. “Primary Sourcing”? You will not accept a book that lists sources as legitimate? To be frank, I have a Doctorate Degree and I have never heard of refusal to accept books as a legitimate source. Is this just another way for you to refuse to look at pertinent information that you don’t want to see? I do not remember the source of the Trump vs Mueller bad deal. It was a while ago. You never heard of it and it is old news to me. That proves that you are missing important facts. Remember, half of the knowledge is like no knowledge. Your hatred of Trump bleeds through...with the “get in line” dig. I suppose that you overlook the many great things that are going on. Record employment numbers, lowest unemployment for ethnic groups and women, blah, blah, blah...
Jeannie Rhee represented the Clinton Foundation and Hillary Clinton during the 2015 lawsuit regarding her private emails. Donated thousands to Clinton and Obama. https://www.opensecrets.org/donor-lookup/results?name=jeannie+rhee&order=desc&sort=N

Gee that was easy.
Can you imagine if they actually went after the real Criminals Hillary and the CORRUPT Obama administration. These Liberal Socialist are destroying this country. What a scary future for these young people. The history books have been changed to reflect the Liberal Socialist agenda. These kids are taught to depend on government. They don't have to look to other countries failed Socialism. They just have to look at our failed inner cities where the poor have been on government Socialist programs for over 60 years. The liberal Socialist programs work just like they were designed to keep more and more people dependant on govt handouts and handouts mean votes.
The Mueller Report took over two years, cost over $25 Million, and was based on a fraud. 13 anti-Trump lawyers and Mueller based this investigation on false premises. Our wonderful country was restrained because of false obstruction. Fake News tried endlessly to make hay of this. You cannot have obstruction of justice for something that never happened. The Liberals that couldn’t wait to exonerate Hillary, even before an investigation began, now are trying to extend something that never happened. I would like to recommend a book, The Russian Hoax by Greg Jarret. This was a silent coup against the President. After a legitimate election win, some crooked people in high places tried to remove President Trump because...they did not like him. Now, we are going to get to the bottom of this. I can’t believe that something like this could ever happen in America. I need an investigation to restore my faith in the judicial system. We all have been fooled by criminals. Many people have been convinced to pick the wrong villain. The hoax is over. Be careful of those that still want to beat a dead horse. Watch the glaring hypocrisy. God Bless America. This coup came close to succeeding. Thank you President Trump for having an iron, indomitable will. Few recognize that now. Everyone will realize that in fifty years.
Joe, you need Probable Cause to begin an investigation. 4 times the FICA court needed evidence to begin (the first time), and to continue (next 3 times) the investigation. The evidence was manufactured and paid for by Hillary Clinton. That information was not told to the judges that signed off the investigation. The information was knowingly false. Several investigators had it out for Trump and leaked inside information to alter public opinion to cause negative influence. Check it out. That is wrong. The truth will now come out. The “convictions” (on Flynn-33yrs military 3 star General-by the way) and others were process crimes. Process crimes are procedural and have nothing to do about the substance of the case. Example, e-mail given to investigator, Flynn asked to recite 2year old e-mail verbatim. When he can’t recall exactly (could you?) that is a process crime. Malicious people had it out for Trump. This goes to the top. President Obama, John Brennan, etc.
Come on Joe. Crooked elements of the FBI threatened Flynn, Manafort, and others. They threatened and intimidated people. They made them “sing” or “compose” what the FBI wanted. The subjects gave the FBI e-mails from years before. Then the FBI had hours of interrogation. When the subject couldn’t recall an e-mail, bam, guilty of a process crime.
The Australian Diplomat was drunk at a bar. Do you want to investigate every barroom discussion? Come on Joe. The Russian Hoax...Gregg Jarrett. Half knowledge = no knowledge
The Russian Hoax by Gregg Jarrett is a well written book that is thoroughly sourced. That the author made a stupid mistake five years prior to the books publishing doesn’t take away from that. Is this just another excuse for you to avoid pertinent information? Do you reduce the accomplishments of Ernest Hemingway for his drinking? Thomas Jefferson was known to severely beat his horses, do you refuse to accept the Declaration of Independence because of that? You will find that many people exhibit phenomenal talent in some areas, and, exhibit human frailties at the same time. Yeah, Jarrett is a good source. You would be wiser if you would read information without prejudging it.
Come on Joe. Don Trump Jr. walked out of an “Opposition Research” meeting, as they are called. There was a plant in the Trump campaign. Trump was not told about that. Why? It was a set-up. If Russians were spying on Trump, why wasn’t he told about it. Giuliani and Christie (Law background) were in the Trump campaign. Trump acted honestly and patriotically. Trump wisely moved his campaign headquarters to Florida when he found out the Trump Towers were being “wire tapped.” The probe happened because over-zealous Trump haters chose to have a coup over a fair democratic Election. I want an investigation to restore my confidence in the American Justice System.
Joe is deflecting! Ha Ha Ha Ha, that's typical of the left. Are you a lefty Joe? Do you vote Democrat, or do you just hate our President? Why Joe?
Was that necessary? I'll work out my own salvation with fear and trembling, if you do the same. You concern over Joe... Deal?
Come on Joe. Don’t reduce yourself by using insults. You state, “your allegiance to a serial adulterer and liar...”did you support President Clinton...a rapist. If you place consensual relationships at the level of rape, you have some alignment issues yourself. If you readily accept lies from left wing sources, CNN, MSNBC, Hillary Clinton, James Comey, Brennan, President Obama, Eric Holder, Susan Rice, Loretta Lynch, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Shiff, Al Sharpton, etc ..., if you readily accept this, I question your faith and salvation. Touché!
Come on Joe. For a guy that wants lawyer like proof for every fact, accusations like this are readily accepted. Pretty low standards. You have Trump Derangement Syndrome. You love to hear any negative thing about Trump. Of course you are above bias. Ha ha. Come on Joe. Don’t continue to deceive yourself.
