Train hits tractor trailer in New Ringgold; 895-443 junction closed to traffic

Published May 12. 2019 05:40PM

The driver of a tractor trailer escaped serious injuries Sunday afternoon when his rig was struck by a train in New Ringgold. The trucker was traveling east on Route 895 and as he was traveling over the railroad tracks making a left turn onto Route 443, a southbound train of the Reading & Blue Mountain railroad struck and tore off the rear portion of the trailer.

The trailer was hauling refrigerated food which spilled onto the roadway.

Traffic on Routes 895 and 443 through New Ringgold is completely shut down.

State police at Frackville are investigating the incident.

That is a gated crossing, with warning lights. You can see what appears to be the remains of the gate in the picture, between the train and the truck. Truck driver may be looking for a new job. I am driving one of the slowest accelerating vehicles on the planet - maybe I can beat the train.
