Towamensing Elementary held its second Color Run For Funds on Friday with students from each grade taking three laps around a track while being doused in five different colored powders.

The event is a fundraiser for the Towamensing’s Parent-Teacher Organization, with money raised likely going to help the school’s staff purchase technological resources or other needed supplies, and help fund extra activities or field trips throughout the year.

“The kids had a blast last year for the inaugural event, and it’s just a great way for the PTO to raise some money to help support the school,” said Ali Spalding, Towamensing teacher and PTO co-chairwoman of the event.

Students warmed up before with a few light exercises before taking their turn around the track.

Other stations included healthy snacks, a cleaning area, carnival games and the popular potato launcher.

Students launched potatoes from a giant slingshot into the neighboring tree farm.

“Running through the field was pretty awesome, and getting the color all over me was my favorite part,” said fourth-grade student Liam Rossachacj.

Fellow fourth-grader Jacob Walkowiak favored the potato launcher.

“It was beyond belief,” he said. “You can’t explain how much fun that it was. It’s just a nice day to be out here and doing it. Everything is well-organized.”

Towamensing PTO’s goal is to reach $10,000 in donations. Right now, they are just over $6,000. Donations will be accepted through June 3.

“For each $1,000 increment raised, a staff member will be slimed by students who raised the most,” Spalding said. “We are up to six staff members right now. It’s quality double dare slime, so keep the donations coming.”
