Marian and Pleasant Valley both posted wins in boys and girls basketball action on Tuesday.

The Jim Thorpe boys picked up an overtime win over Pine Grove, while the Northwestern and Palmerton girls gained Colonial League victories.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Jim Thorpe used a big second half to erase an early deficit before claiming a 49-47 Schuylkill League overtime win over Pine Grove.

Chris Condly had 14 points to lead the Olympians (5-11; 3-6), who surged ahead in the third quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 20-6. Adam Lauer chipped in with eight points.

Pine Grove (8-8; 3-6), which led 19-13 at halftime, received a game-high 17 points from Shea Morgan.

Marian cruised to a 72-52 Schuylkill League victory over Minersville.

Tyler Fritz sparked the Colts (13-2; 7-1) with a game-high 27 points. Fritz, who tallied 10 of his points during a 25-11 second quarter, also added six assists. Chris Ritsick contributed 20 points, while Jaryn Eroh pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Battlin’ Miners (2-13) received 24 points from Brendan Lonergan.

The Spartans (4-11; 2-7), who jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead, received a team-high 22 points from Jack Flynn.

Richard Yturrino netted a game-high 23 points for the Indians (6-10; 3-6), while Zach Hunsicker added 12.

Noah Mitchell paced the Bears (5-10; 4-8) with 18 points. Sebastian Pizcatowski added 15 points, while Marcus Arce contributed 14.

Colin Castillon had 15 points for the Cardinals (2-14).

Daryl Coleman’s big night sparked Southern Lehigh to a 63-42 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

Coleman scored 27 points for the Spartans (13-3; 11-1), who outscored the Tigers by 11 points in both the first and fourth quarters.

Sean McCann and Andres Garrido both had nine points to lead Northwestern (8-8; 5-7).

Blue Mountain turned back Panther Valley’s second-half rally, holding on for a 62-59 Schuylkill League victory.

Blake White had 22 points for the Panthers (10-7; 3-6), who trailed by nine at the break. Brandon Stilitino finished with 18 points, while Erick Marchorro added 11.

Keenan Cryts sparked the Blue Eagles (13-3; 6-3) with 20 points.

Pottsville swept Tamaqua in a Schuylkill League meet.

The Tide posted a 109-72 win in the girls’ meet, and scored a 107-60 victory in the boys’ competition.

In the girls’ meet, Brianna Dumond picked up victories in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke for the Raiders, while Nicole Agueor-Ramirez won the 200 free. Tamaqua’s Alexander Barron won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke in the boys’ meet. Brandon Long added a victory in the 100 backstroke.

Panther Valley recorded a 36-23 win over Weatherly.

Hayden Goida led the Panthers with 13 points, while Eli Maynard added 10.

The Wreckers’ Vincent Paisley and John Puzzetti both finished with six points.

JR. HIGH GIRLS B-BALL

Tamaqua-PM East

Tamaqua dropped a 24-23 contest to Pocono Mountain East in the A game, despite 10 points from Lorelei Plasha.

In the B contest, the Raiders fell 41-12.

Tamaqua-Pleasant Valley

Lorelei Plasha had eight points to lead Tamaqua to a 30-24 victory over Pleasant Valley in the A game.

Carly Minchoff added seven points, while Ava Agosti chipped in with six. PV’s Bundra finished with 10.

In the B game, the Bears rolled to a 25-6 victory behind seven points from Lesnik.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Tamaqua posted a 38-25 victory over Blue Mountain in the A game.

Lorelei Plasha paced the Raiders with 10 points, while Ava Agosti and Carly Minchoff both finished with nine.

Blue Mountain earned an 18-10 win in the B contest.
