August 13, 1975 — Tamaqua’s Joann Fern sets two records, while Rich Nunemacher and Bill Wentzel each garner one during the final round of the Schuylkill County Swim Association championships. Fern, swimming in the junior division, places first in the 100 individual medley in a record time of 1:12.55. She also sets a new standard in winning the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 1:13.4. Nunemacher turns in a first-place time of 17.65 in the mites’ 25 backstroke to establish a new mark, while Wentzel writes his name in the record book with a 54.55 in the intermediate 75 breaststroke. Tamaqua also receives three firsts in the meet from Steve Price.
